Navjotpal Kaur

I am a PhD Candidate in Sociology at Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada.

My multi-sited doctoral research, in India and Canada, maps the intersection of historical power and privilege associated with gender and caste and explores how these intersections are pivotal to the materiality of contemporary caste bodies – particularly male bodies. Specifically, my research characterizes the synthesis between the macro-structural world and individual upper-caste men’s comportment and bodily expression within the context of a caste-society with a larger focus on the construction and performativity of hegemonic masculinities in different geographical spaces - namely, local & transnational.

I am also working on my book entitled "Hegemonic masculinity, caste, and the body: Intersections in local and transnational spaces" based on my doctoral dissertation.
